As a leader in their industry for 40 years, Waterhog has created a mat to be beaten, battered & beloved by families for years to come. And while leading their industry, they haven’t have an ecomm website and social channels, ever.

They had a new goal: go D2C. But in order do so, Waterhog needed a new brand identity that would align with their story and scale across all the channels needed to market themselves.

After our friends at St. Jules unearthed Waterhog’s new brand strategy and story, we collaborated to design Waterhog’s new visual brand.




Visual Identity

A System That’s Built For Life.


Waterhog’s reputation to date is known for quality. Keeping part of that heritage was important. It also gave us an opportunity to capitolize on any brand equity they had previously built, even without marketing channels.

We decided to lean in to Waterhog’s previous brand equity, but update it to match their new personality. We paired this symbol with an updated workmark, typographic system, and color palette that connected all the dots to their new strategy.





Design Language

The Layers of Life


Let’s face it: life gets messy. But Waterhog’s been on a mission to help tame that mess. Their innovative mats not only get the grime off, but they actually will withstand the elements.

Through out the process, we found troves of inspiration from nature. From colors, to the imperfect, organic forms of the brand’s typography. Our visual language focuses on tidying up the mess by showing a series of organized layers that also represent the layering process of creating a Waterhog mat. The system uses a series of textural images and snapshots from life, all layered neatly as a work of art.

Results

A new chapter


Waterhog had been trying to find a new brand identity that truly resonated with who they are. After working with us and the St. Jules team, we were able to help empower their team with a foundational brand system that would allow them to bring their brand to market, and begin the journey of selling D2C. More soon on their results.
